Q&A with Owner, Sara Hartley

What inspired you to step into the world of small business?
I started my business after seeing a gap between what families needed and what existed for children’s emotional well-being. As a parent and healthcare leader, I wanted to create inclusive, practical resources that support kids, parents, and educators in meaningful ways.

Describe your typical customer and what you love about your customers?

My customers are parents, educators, and caregivers who care deeply about children’s emotional health—often supporting neurodivergent kids. I love serving a community that is intentional, open to learning, and committed to creating supportive, inclusive environments for children.

What led your business to seek out new/additional funding?
As demand grew, I needed funding to scale responsibly. Additional funding allowed me to invest in professional illustration, printing, inventory, and distribution—ensuring quality, accessibility, and long-term sustainability without compromising the mission.

How did you find out about CEF?

I learned about Colorado Enterprise Fund through local small business and entrepreneurial networks focused on impact-driven businesses. CEF stood out as an organization that genuinely understands small business owners and prioritizes both growth and community impact.

What ultimately made you decide to go with CEF as your lender?

CEF’s values, transparency, and people-first approach made the decision easy. The team took time to understand my business and its impact, which made the partnership feel supportive rather than transactional.

What were you able to do with the funding you received from CEF?
The funding allowed me to professionally produce and distribute my children’s book series, invest in high-quality printing and illustration, and build the infrastructure needed to grow sustainably and reach more families and educators.

What is on the horizon for you and your small business?
I’m focused on expanding into schools and classrooms, growing the book series, and developing companion resources for parents and educators. My long-term goal is to normalize emotional literacy and neurodiversity in childhood education.

What is something you're looking forward to in the next 3-6 months in your business?
I’m most excited about expanding impact—reaching more families, educators, and children, and hearing how these resources are making a difference in everyday moments.
