Lack of access to healthy, fresh food is a real problem for many Coloradans. Our Healthy Foods Financing Initiative (HFFI) helps to eliminate the gap.
The
USDA estimates about 53.6 million people, or 17.4% of the population in the U.S., live in areas considered low-income and low-access, meaning the nearest supermarket is more than a half mile away in urban areas or 10 miles away in rural areas. When barriers exist to accessing healthy, fresh food, this can negatively affect diet and food security.
The HFFI program seeks to finance grocery stores and other businesses that deliver fresh, nutritious, and affordable food options to food deserts which also helps to foster a vibrant local food economy in Colorado. Increasing access to nutritious food in communities can reduce the rate of chronic disease and improve the overall health of Coloradans.
Thanks to our partnership with CDFI Fund, we can offer small business loans plus resource tools for healthy food businesses such as retail grocery providers, carts, co-ops, farmer markets, trucks, delivery services, food production companies & distributors, urban & rural agricultural projects, and more.
