ORGANIZATION DESCRIPTION:  
Colorado Enterprise Fund (CEF) is a Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) founded in 1976. Our goal is to ensure economic vitality for Colorado by providing loans and business coaching to locally owned businesses. We are committed to serving all small businesses, and we specialize in serving Black, Latinx/Chicanx, women and veteran owned businesses. CEF has a team of people specialized in serving Spanish speaking business owners. We work with entrepreneurs who are unable to access financing through traditional lenders by providing loans from $1,000 to $500,000.

POSITION DESCRIPTION
This position is responsible for providing effective business coaching (also called “technical assistance”) to Colorado Enterprise Fund clients, as part of our Business Acceleration Services (BAS) team.  The BAS team provides coaching, tools, and resources to entrepreneurs to help them position their businesses for success. This coaching may include helping clients with setting up financial documents such as cashflow or profit and loss statements, reviewing operations for increased profitability, and devising marketing strategies for a variety of business sectors. BAS advisors are provided with tools and templates to use with clients and are also encouraged to bring their unique set of skills and resources to their work, while following CEF policies and protocols.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide business advice to CEF borrowers within the business practice areas assigned by the BAS Manager.

  • Assess borrowers’ business progress using assessment tools provided, applying as much independent thinking and objectivity as possible to render accurate assessments.

  • Build strong, long-term relationships with assigned CEF clients. Follow up with borrowers previously advised. As significant business needs may be discovered, provide additional services.

  • Recommend to borrowers, as appropriate, business tools in Initiate Prosperity: Powered by Colorado Enterprise Fund.

  • Recommend to borrowers, as appropriate, services of Colorado Small Business Development Centers or other partners of CEF.

  • Provide coaching via online conferencing. When necessary, BAS coaches meet with clients in person. This is not a requirement during the pandemic.

  • Limit hours worked to assigned hours; when significant business needs may be discovered requiring additional hours, request approval.

  • Document services provided, and time utilized, according to policies and procedures of CEF.

  • Support BAS Manager in improving processes for the group.

  • Attend all CEF staff meetings and BAS team meetings as requested.

  • Assist fellow group members in performing their duties, when asked.

  • Follow all policies and procedures assigned to this position.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

  • Strong respect for lower income, under-resourced, and immigrant communities.

  • Excellent time management and organizational skills, including an ability to engage in consistent, detailed documentation of work performed.

  • Deep knowledge of small business best practices and potential challenges and hazards faced by entrepreneurs.

  • Ability to listen empathetically and constructively to business needs expressed by small business owners and staff.

  • Ability to convert business needs expressed into action plans, in priority order to address the best next steps intended to accelerate the progress of the business

  • Professional history of working with people from diverse backgrounds, especially Black and immigrant communities.

  • Proficiency in using business software applications including but not limited to Microsoft Office Suite, Outlook, Customer Relationship Management (CRM) Systems, Digital Phone and Video Conferencing Systems, and Quickbooks.

  • Spanish fluent candidates with cultural competencies for serving Latinx/Chicanx communities are strongly preferred.

TRAINING, EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Proficient in Quickbooks and small business financial documentation and accounting practices.

  • Minimum of five years of experience as a small business owner, small business coach, or other

    relevant entrepreneurial experience.

  • Degrees related to business or accounting are preferred but not required.

  • Experience working in a commercial lending institution is a plus.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT

  • Workspace: All 1099 contractors are expected to provide their own workspace for providing services to CEF clients. CEF will provide tools and resources to use with clients but will not provide space or equipment for the contractor to work. Contractor must maintain reliable internet and cell phone service during business hours. All contractors will need to spend several hours per day looking at a computer screen.

  • Transportation: Ability to provide reliable vehicle transportation to client sites in Coloradoas required. Mileage is reimbursed

  • Workplaces: Office sites presenting climate-controlled conditions; client sites sometimes presenting conditions of hot and cold temperatures or potential tripping hazards, environments with dust, dirt and chemicals.
