Colorado Enterprise Fund Participates in Small Business Finance Forums

In partnership with The Office of Governor Bill Ritter, The SBA and other resource partners, CEF as participating in a series of six Small Business Finance Forums held across the State and titled "Surviving Tough Times - Small Business Finance Forums."  The goal is to help business owners deal with the economic downturn by offering counseling, workshops and resources at key sites throughout the State.  The first two of these Finance Forums were held on December 11th at Pueblo Community College and December 16th on the Auraria Campus in Denver.  Both events were well-attended and received positive feedback from attendees.  As a statewide lender, CEF has been an active participant in the planning and implementation of these events.

The remaining four Forums will be held in the first quarter of 2009, with the next one in January in Grand Junction.  Additional events will be held in Durango, Northern Colorado, and Colorado Springs, with specific dates and locations to be announced soon.

Donna Dyon Broad attended grade school with the daughter of the original owner of Mountain Mama Leather Products and remembers her always being busy working on some leather project whenever she came over to the house. When Donna later saw Ms. Anderson selling her leather products at a stock show she finally understood why she was always so busy.  In 2002, when Donna moved back to Idaho Springs with her own family, she started working part-time for Ms. Anderson cutting leather. She worked with her for five years, learning the leather business. When Ms. Anderson decided to retire, Donna and her husband Charles purchased the business, fulfilling a lifelong connection of Donna's to the little business.  The business loan from Colorado Enterprise Fund helped Mountain Mama Leather Products finance a bulk purchase of leather for the company.  Donna said, “I went through a little period of time where I wasn’t getting a lot of new business and CEF stepped in to help me get over that little slump.” The company has since picked up some new business and is getting new orders weekly. Donna is thrilled that they are able to employ five hard working, devoted employees, just like her from years ago.  Donna also enjoys having the ability to give back to her community by donating her products to causes in town for their fundraising activities.  Ms. Anderson started this tradition of giving and Donna and Charles proudly continue this practice.  To learn more about Mountain Mama Leather Products and to see the variety of products they have to offer, visit their website at www.mtmamaleather.com.
